very metal

Yesterday, I went to the paint store to get ideas for frame color. Strippers were 25% off. I think I might have gone to the wrong store….

After playing with the store’s sun-flashlight (so you can check out the actual paint color not infected by the fluorescent lighting) I found some paint colors I like and took a couplea samples home.

This morning, I gathered my tools

and started to cut the extraneous tabs off the bike. I should have included my lovely safety glasses in with the tools picture.

I sent sparks a-flyin’ and made some rough cuts.

Whoa, let’s move the gas can out of harms way!

I finished cutting what tabs I could, but need a smaller cutting device to get some of the more tight-fitting tabs off. I also need to grind down the current rough cuts.

It’s easy enough to do… this afternoon I borrowed a friend’s Dremel… I just didn’t feel like doing anymore once the temperature rose over 100F outside today. I’ll finish tomorrow.

After I finished with my sparks for the day, I sprayed some test color on the frame. I’m not going to post any photos of that though because it’s gonna be a surprise. Shhhhh.

July 30 wiring and seat

Well, got the wiring harness off today.

I’d like to put connectors on the rat’s nest of wires so I am not unplugging multiple wires every time I need to do something. Also, it would make some sense of it all and less intimidating.

more rats nest!

I pulled the cover off the seat because I’m going to have to drill through the fiberglass pan in order to mount the seat.

shouldn’t be too difficult.

One of my snaps pulled out, so I need to figure out a way to secure them. Maybe an epoxy?

Damn dog

Alyosha has officially lost his status as Garage Dog.

I got a little buggy and decided to go to the garage to work on my bike a little. As I walked to leave, Yosh gave me a pitiful “take me with you” look. So, I put his leash on, and we went for the short walk to the garage.

I opened the garage door, and Yosh bolted in. I didn’t have his leash wrapped up, and as I followed him in, he skittered around the bike, caught his leash on the stands, and over went the RD to the floor. Wham! I quickly got the bike back up from its side – lifting from the legs, of course….

The kickstand mount got pretty bent.

I couldn’t get the bike back up on the front stand, so I decided to do what I could with it on the floor. It was not very comfortable.

There is a clusterfuck of wires to contend with inside the headlight bucket and I started pulling them apart in order to get the bucket and instrument cluster off.

I couldn’t get the stupid clutch cable out of the perch and realized it was frustrating me too much. The steel cable end threads into the aluminum housing at the clutch lever. The aluminum threads started to strip. I started down the dangerous road thinking, “Why the hell did I decide to strip this bike down to the frame?”

Fuck.

I am done for the night.
