let there be light!

Squeezing in a little futzing between work and gym….

I needed to connect the brakelight to a hot, and discovered I don’t have a connector for it.
But I was able to snug it in for a test run. After the gym, I’ll stop at the store and pick up a connector and wire it in proper-like.

Worked on some wiring aaaand…. Let there be LIGHT!

I didn’t secure the headlight yet because I need to wire that brake light in, but it works!

and so does the tail light and brake light! (couldn’t really get a shot of the brighter brake light, so you’ll hafta take my word for it. 😉 )

I tried to get a shot of both headlight and tail light, but my kitchen is a little small for a panorama pic….

YAY!
SO CLOSE!

I’ve got a few wires I need to block off, and then I’ll neaten the whole thing up, put seat and tank on.

I’ll work on it this eve!

baby’s gonna get new shoes!

Ah, my workshop is lacking. I so miss having a garage… but ya do what ya gotta do.

It’s been years since I dealt with a drum brake bike. It’s not hard, just different.

I forgot some of the idiosyncrasies and details. Luckily, I have dear friends who are but a text message away who can help fill in the cracks. The rear brake adjuster was sneaky. When you try to loosen the nut, it just spins. The trick is to move the booty to expose a hex, which then can be held with a wrench, or as he wrote, “roll it back, like a rubber.” He wondered if I would be able to finish the job after giggling to that.

In order to get the rear wheel off, I needed some kind of stand on which to balance the bike. Since I have yet to get some buckets, and seem to have lost all my milk crates over the years, I improvised.

Luckily, a couplea friends stopped by with a milk crate and got the bike propped up. It was good timing too, because I managed to tweak my lower back again.

We got the front tire off quickly and loaded the wheels into my car.
Tomorrow, I will take them in to get new tires!
YAY!

RD update, finally

Made decent progress on the RD today!

Got the wiring sorted out with help from a friend.
Discovered my (sealed beam) headlight is blown so on the hunt for a new headlight.
Somehow in the move, I misplaced my left side cover bolts. It’s annoying because usually I’m good about keeping bolts with their parts, so I’m annoyed with myself. Although, there is a slim chance I can blame it on the cat. 😀

“What next” list:

Acquire:
Headlight
Brake light
Front brake caliper
Front brake line (steel braided)

Do:
Install brake light and headlight
Neaten up and hide wiring
Install pipes
Find the missing bolts
Bleed brakes

What else?
I’m sure I’m forgetting something. Hm.
I’ll remember later.
